Thanks Again Microsoft.

I play World of Warcraft.  Stop judging me!  Everybody needs a hobby…or two…or five.

My fantasy universe requires maintenance from time to time, as do all our disks and switches and the millions of line of code that keep us happily posting our deepest thoughts, recipes, stories of kids, or political musings.

The balance of my universe has become upset.  My programs are not downloading and updating as they should, at only the quick right click of my mouse.

I blame Microsoft.  For one thing, it’s just so easy.  Our friendly ‘big corp’ has become so overly dominant in the operating system (for your computer, and possibly your personal-adult-battery-powered friend) market that you have to buy an Apple (who is now using an OS by Microsoft) or you can build your own machine and run Linux.  Who wants to do that as a casual user?

Those days are over for me.  I want to push the power button, have the pc boot up and run without any need on my part for constant maintenance and tweaking.  I just want to browse the internet, blog, and play WoW.  Speaking strictly of free time here…sitting time, not standing-in-the-kitchen-for-some-reason time.  And I started sewing again.  All of this is seriously cutting into my gaming time!

Excuse me!

Well.  That feels a little better.

All my troubles started yesterday, when Curse Client (a program which handily manages all of my little ad-on applications for WoW…and other games) had an update.  I’ve been using this computer, and program to play WoW for about a year and 1/2.  Everything has been hunky-dory.  But suddenly, the CC update can’t find a file.  CRISIS!!!

So I check the details log.  It sends me poking into App Data, and looking at a MS .NET Framework file.  I’m removing programs, deleting files, re-downloading…  still no joy.  😦

At lunch I took a break from playing tech support to myself to dine with my wonderful friend, Josh.  He’s a grad student now, in Florida, so we only get to see him a couple of times a year.  He was driving through today on his Christmas break, so Hubby and I met him for a-lunching.  During the course of our conversation, I learned that MS .NET Framework is a ‘manager’ program, that updates MS Office, among other things.

I don’t even have MS Office!  So why I ask you for the love of all things sacred, WHY DO I EVEN NEED THIS PROGRAM???  And why is it f’ing up programs that I DO use?

Such are the questions that make us hate Microsoft.

Better go try another fresh install.

Random Food

It’s been a really busy day.  So I’ll leave you all with a bit of food pr0n.

Since I’ve committed to posting every day.

Breakfast.

Lunch.

And dinner.

I’m kinda sad panda they aren’t bigger pics.  But it’s making me hungry anyhow.

Caturday Follies

Another week gone.  How does it go so fast?  I had planned to start cutting back a bit (quantity, not quality), and trying to select healthier food choices, and was determined to exercise every day this week, until Mum and Rat Boy showed up with Freebirds for lunch.  That was yesterday.

Today we had lunch out at the ‘everything on the menu is fried’ southern cooking joint, but was totally awesome, of course!  My resolve melted into a puddle of iced coffee on the floor as soon as I smelled the fried zucchini and mushrooms.  So much for healthy eating!  😛

On the other hand, I still have kats to show me the way to true enlightenment.  They’re not concerned with getting into that special occasion collar.    They ARE concerned with me keeping plenty of food available, so the bottom of the bowl is never seen again.

And lollygagging in various places. I love that word! 🙂

But occasionally, they have close encounters of the wilder kind…and an urge to feed themselves.  And share.

MMMMMMMM…squirrrel!  And, yes, that’s really my kat.  At least the squirrel is not in the closet.  Yet.

Yes, that’s a squirrel behind the blinds.  Alive.  Living in the woods is SO great sometimes.

And they think our human concerns to be so bizarre.  Like shoes, my personal raison d’etre!  Hello,

B A D G L E Y  M I S C H K A

I just wish I had prettier feet to go with the beauty which is…SHOE.

Kidnapped!

Yesterday, as I settled in with my pint jar of iced coffee (awesome idea and recipe at Pioneer Woman), preparing to send all three of the boys off to the Galleria and a day of ice skating so that I could share the deliciousness of Peanut Butter Cookies, there was a knock at the door.  Of course, it was Mum, here to get said boys for the day’s adventure.

Hubby, upon learning that ice skating was on the schedule, had earlier catapulted himself out of bed to dig his ice skates out of the garage.  Because all Texans own ice skates.  That’s just how we roll. 😛

She said, “Oh, why don’t you come with us?  We’re lunching at Brennon’s.”  No arm twisting necessary!  Brennan’s???  FREE???  So I threw on a relatively presentable outfit, hair still in ponytail (unbrushed), no makeup (a.k.a. warpaint), and off we went.

Lunch was fabulous, and was accompanied by mimosas, my current favorite girly drink.  Mum had Grilled Shrimp with Cheesy Grits, Hubby had the Pecan Crusted fish, and the boys and I all had the Filet with Lump Crab.  Excuse me while I get a tissue…I’m drooling again.   😛  We finished up with Lemon Meringue Pie with Blueberry Coulis, Bananas Foster, and of course, coffee.

Mum wouldn’t let me take pictures of the food.  😦

Then we headed to the Galleria for some icy goodness, which turned out to be considerable warmer than usual.

Is it just me, or have you noticed that the malls, movie theaters, etc. seem to be warmer this year?  Like, I can watch a movie and don’t need a parka to be comfortable, warm?  Maybe I’m having hot flashes…

A great time was had by all involved.

Now, a picture of Kitchen Kat, because it’s so much more fun to type when you’re in front of the monitor!

He doesn’t like the flash.  😦  But he does seem to like iced coffee.  😛
